  • New School Uniform

As you may have heard from your child, we have been having a discussion about school uniform skirts. The discussion began when some girls said that they did not feel the black skirt was smart. The issue was not with the skirt as such but with the fact that black skirts can come in many different shapes, materials and styles  and so the uniform was not, in fact, ‘uniform’ or consistent.

Welcome To Manningtree High School

Welcome to the new term and the New Year.

I hope that you have all had a good holiday. Our site team have been busy whilst most of us were having a break; the painting of the long corridor has progressed significantly. This is helping to give a lighter, brighter feel even on dark winter days.

Over the holidays, you may have seen the fabulous article in the local paper about our school show jumping team. Congratulations are due to the team and many thanks to their dedicated parents and helpers who give so generously of their time to support this.

Although the excitement of Christmas is now over, there is still plenty to look forward to. Year 10 students will shortly be testing their entrepreneurial skills against those of other school in a Dragon’s Den style event. We continue to send teams to the local schools’ Maths competitions – year 8 will soon have the chance to fight for the honour of the school.  Rehearsals for the school play are in full swing. Tickets for this will be on sale shortly. The interactive production draws upon Grimm’s Tales and promises to be spectacularly entertaining.

Next week, year 11 will receive the results of their mock examinations. This process models the real ‘results day’ in the summer and will no doubt have similar scenes of glad surprise and relief. There may also be some students who are disappointed that they have not yet achieved the grades they are looking for. However, there is still time and will be many opportunities for students to improve their knowledge and exam technique – if the high levels of support available are matched with equally high levels of determination and effort.

Last term closed with our Charity Week assembly. Representatives from some of the tens of Charities supported came along to collect cheques. Our grand total exceeded £7,000. This is an outstanding result and every student should be proud of what they have contributed personally and achieved collectively.  Manningtree students have improved many lives.
